Important Information about the mission.

FAMI Medical & Surgical Missions are usually held in the last two weeks of February in the Philippines. Medical & Surgical Missions coordinates with local non-government organizations and non-profit foundations at a designated charity hospital.  These hospitals normally have basic operating room equipment. Patients are pre-screened and the local hospital staff does postoperative cares. FAMI encourages partnership with local community and non-government organization (NGO) in serving the needy. The volunteers pay travel expenses to the Philippines. Local sponsors or FAMI normally pays for lodging, food and local transportation.  FAMI obtains Philippine government requirements for physician temporary permit to practice in country. Not all members can be accommodated each year for surgical and medical missions due to our limited resources

FAMI mission volunteer process is a combination of invitation to essential medical professionals (some spouses), board members and an open lottery. The maximum team size per year is 40 from the US and 20 from the Philippines.

It has taken me a long time  to  be where I am
and sometimes we forget why we
become doctors and this mission
has reminded me why I became a doctor!
